Design Review — 18 May 2026
Six deliveries from Design Claude. For each, here's what's on the table — pick how (or whether) we ship it, and the picks-summary panel will let you copy your verdicts back to me.
How this works: Each section has preview links (open in new tabs) plus a set of "how should we use it?" cards. Click a card to pick it — pick more than one if both apply, click again to un-pick. The black panel bottom-right keeps a running tally. When you're done, hit Copy my picks and paste back here.
Mechanic-corrected rebuild — thoughts arrive, drift, fade. No catch-and-pin. Two visual treatments at the extremes of the register: clean italic drift on cream paper, vs ink-bloom letterpress stamps that dissolve back into the page. Both fully passive — no tap-to-summon, no clear button, no score.
Open each in a new tab and let it run 30 seconds — the rhythm is the point. Drift = thoughts gently moving across paper. Letterpress = ink bloom settling into place, then dissolving.
How should we use it?
✓
Ship Letterpress at /background-noise/Design's pick
Design's pick. Reads as 'field-guide register' — closest fit to the rest of the site's vocabulary. Letterpress dissolution carries the 'passes on its own' feeling.
✓
Ship Drift at /background-noise/
The quieter pick. Reads as 'typeset prose, gently moving' — closer to chapter type than UI.
✓
Ship both — let viewers toggle
Tab-switch UI like /soundscapes/ has. More to maintain, but lets the variant decision wait for usage data.
✓
Whatever I pick — add tap-to-summon
Design left this off deliberately (any affordance reads as 'something to do'). I can put it back trivially if you want.
✓
Don't ship — send back
Mechanic or treatment misses for you. Flag what's wrong and Design re-spins.
Three thumb directions explored (specimen plate · apothecary bell jar · weather cross-section). Direction B — the apothecary bell jar with a coiled serpent inside the rose mist — got refined. Delivered as 1:1 square (1200×1200) and 4:5 portrait (1200×1500), with 3× raster PNGs alongside the SVGs.
Matches the apothecary/specimen register the site already speaks (/cabinet-of-intrusives/, /theme-picker-bottle-v1/). No copy in the image — wordmark is typesetting's job.
1:1 square — book chapter opener / homepage card
4:5 portrait — print pages / longform article header
How should we use it?
✓
Use both — book chapter opener + website article headerDesign's pick
Use 4:5 portrait for book chapter, square for site article header. Same image carries across mediums.
✓
ALSO use square as the homepage card thumb for /halt-card/ Pink Mist
Current /halt-card/ thumb is generic rose glasses. The bell-jar serpent is more honest about the danger.
✓
Book chapter opener only — site uses something else
Keep this for print; site stays with the current thumb or gets its own treatment later.
✓
Hold for revision — try Direction C (cross-section) too
C is more diagrammatic. Held in reserve in the thumbs/ folder. Say if you want it refined.
'The hours that used to go to drinking land somewhere — put them where you want them.' Twelve seed life areas (drinking starts huge), user adds more. Each bubble is sized by importance; resize and the field re-packs.
A is the daily widget (tap/drag/double-tap bubbles). B is the print-friendly worksheet (sliders + static viz, prints clean). Both share one localStorage key — Design's pitch is the hybrid is built-in: A is the screen tool, B is the artifact you stick on the fridge.
Both share one localStorage key — edits in one carry to the other. Design's pitch: A is the daily widget, B is the artifact you print/save.
How should we use it?
✓
Ship hybrid: A at /idle-hands/, B at /idle-hands/sheet/Design's pick
Design's pitch. Single header link toggles between them. Captures both the daily-touch use case and the keep-it-around use case.
✓
Ship A only — the interactive bubble field
Tap to grow, shift-tap to shrink. Lives as the regular widget; no print path.
✓
Ship B only — the printable worksheet
More restrained, more 'workbook page from the book.' Sliders + static viz that prints clean.
✓
Don't ship — wrong direction
Concept or execution misses. Flag what's off and Design re-spins.
Book-blocker graphics from the master Graphics + Aesthetic list. All five share visual vocabulary (cream paper, corner brackets, Cormorant + Lora, hairline rules). Read as a family with /environmental-cues-spread/ and /cabinet-of-intrusives/.

Approve all 5 for the book + use HALT card + Cravings curve as site assetsDesign's pick
G10 HALT card → printable companion to /halt-tool/. G4 Cravings curve → graphic on the urge-surfing page. Two of the five do double duty.
✓
Approve all 5 for book typesetting — site stays as-is
All ship into the manuscript. Site doesn't need to change today.
✓
Approve most — send revisions for some
Tell me which ones need adjustments and what. Design respins those.
✓

How should we use it?
✓
Approve all + ship bingo-web.html as /bingo/ widgetDesign's pick
Replaces existing /bingo-pop-culture/ widget with the new field-guide version. Print SVG stays for the book.
✓
Approve all for book — keep current /bingo/ widget live
Book gets new graphics; site widget stays as it is.
✓
Approve everything pending — I want to revise the 24 bingo tropes
Design used placeholders. Send me your final 24 and I swap them in.
✓
Send back — autopsy or schedules need rework

G17 Savings Calculator — consolidated to one widget with four outputs (calories · money · hours · sleep). G18 Russian-Nyet entry splash — two aesthetic directions (Soviet hostile reset vs Translated to site palette). G19 Popout template — one CSS module with five register classes covering all 22+ manuscript popouts.
G17 · Savings Calculator
Consolidates calorie + money + hours + sleep into one widget with four output rows.
▸ Open calculator
G19 · Popout Template
One CSS module, five registers (note · quote · warning · specimen · reference). Replaces ~22 popout instances in the book.
▸ See all five registers
How should we use it?
✓
G17: replace current /drink-calculator/ with new consolidated versionDesign's pick
Drops old version, ships new one at the existing URL. One widget instead of two.
✓
G17: ship at /savings/ alongside existing /drink-calculator/
Both live. Old is the simple calc, new is the consolidated 'what you get back' view.
✓
G17: skip — current calculator is fine
Don't ship the consolidated version.
✓
G18: ship Direction B (Translated) as site entry splashDesign's pick
Design's pick. Same energy as A, but in book's palette so no register break when the rest of the site loads.
✓
G18: ship Direction A (Soviet hostile reset)
The loud option. Most memorable, but clashes with rest-of-site register after click-through.
✓
G18: skip the entry page entirely
First-time visitors land directly on the homepage. No splash gate.
✓
G19: adopt popout template for the book typesettingDesign's pick
All ~22 popouts use one of the five registers. Typography decision.
✓
G19: ALSO use it on the site for callouts
Carry the system across both mediums.
✓
G19: skip — typesetting will handle popouts its own way
Design template stays in the bin; book gets handled separately.
Picks are saved to this browser only — refreshing the page won't lose them, but switching devices will.
