Your Privacy

TL;DR: I will not sell or share your personal data. Anything like a letter you write to your future self is encrypted on the server the moment it is sent — I never see them. Other tool data (urge logs, dashboards, etc.) is stored on a Cloudflare server that I suppose I could technically find a way to decrypt, but I won’t. The plan is to eventually make those server logs public, but for now I promise.

What gets stored, and where

Tool data

Nothing about your tool inputs is ever shared, sold, or used to train anything. Tools save your inputs in one of two places:

Signed out: data lives in your browser’s local storage on your own device. Nothing leaves your machine.

Signed in: data goes to a small per-account file on Cloudflare KV. This exists so (a) your browser cache getting dumped doesn’t cost you something important, and (b) your stuff syncs across devices. The file is identified by your member ID. I could technically open it as the site owner; I don’t. Long-term I plan to add client-side encryption so this becomes structurally impossible rather than promise-based, but that’s not built yet.

Letters to your future self

These get the strongest treatment available right now. The moment a letter is submitted, it’s encrypted with AES-GCM and stored as ciphertext on the server. The decryption key is required to deliver the email at the scheduled time, but it is hidden. Eventually I’m going to build a little security camera to prove nobody has even peeked, but sheesh… This is the strongest privacy setup I’m aware of that lets these tools still work, and better than most sites. If you have an idea that is better, let’s do that!

Contributing to the community side of things

Most of the tools on this site work as solo drills — but will become richer if people share from their experience. After using the following tools, you’ll be able to see what other quitters have contributed and share your own if you wish, anonymously. They are lightly moderated because this is the internet, but otherwise hands off — and of course, up until you explicitly allow it, everything remains private (see the section above).

Membership email

If you sign up, your email address is stored by Ghost, the publishing platform this site runs on. Ghost uses it to send you the magic-link sign-in emails and the weekly newsletter (if you opted in). You can opt out at any time, at which point you’re purged permanently from the list. I will never sell that list.

Community submissions

If you submit something to the Glimmers list, the Doomscroll list, the Sober Wall, the Counterweight, or Daily Action: your submission is moderated and may appear on the public site. Submissions are anonymous unless you sign them.

What does NOT happen here

No ads. No third-party trackers beyond basic Analytics. Your data is not sold. Your tool inputs are not used to train AI. There’s no advertising-driven funnel because there are no advertisers. The only reason I want sign-ups is so I can show serious publishers there’s an audience for the book. ;)

Your data, your call

If you want a copy of everything the site has about you, or you want it all deleted (which mostly amounts to a small file on a Cloudflare server plus your membership row in Ghost) — email me directly and I’ll take care of it personally.
